چکیده

Prochlorococczs is the dominant phototroph in the temperate oceans. It is found throughout the euphotic zonq at light intensities panning over four ;;";r ;i#gnitude. Thii growth range is larger than observed for any single culture of Piochlorororrui and is likely due to the co-existence of multiple ecotypes adapted for optimal grow_t! at different light intensities. Here we 6# tt" teS rDNA sequences of fou-r Proc-hlorococcus isolates from the paiific Ocean, MIT9201; MIT1202, MITg2ll and MIT9215, which have L""n pt ysiologically characterized as high or low B/A ecotypes b-ased on iniii int'Ut"rritios and light-dependent growth responses.-Ttt.l!1.9low B/A isolates are 6losely relatei and iluster together with other low B/A isolates in u pie"i""rfy ideniineO "high-light adapted" c.lade. The fourth Pacific isolate, " ti!f, gle "cotype, is not-a m"Imb"r oi this clade. Sequences specific to each ohviiolosical tvpe will be useful in probing field populations to determine the ipatiat uid te*po.ul distribution of the ecotypes of Prochlorococcus.

Molecular phylogeny of Ephippidae (Actinopteri: Acanthuriformes)

The family Ephippidae consists of eight genera and 15 species. The genus Platax with five species distributed throughout Indo-Pacific, seemingly has more diversity than other genera of the family. Phylogenetic relationships among species and genera of the family, however, are not fully resolved. 48 sequences of eight species (four genera) of batfishes are available in the GenBank and have been ...

Genetic diversity among tall fescue ecotypes using agro-morphological traits, nutritional values and AFLP molecular markers

This study was carried out to compare agro-morphological traits and nutritive value of 25 tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) ecotypes grown in Tehran, Iran. The experiments were carried out in a split plot design during 2016-2018 growing seasons. The results showed that there was a significant genetic variation in existing germplasm. The highest heritability was related to dry forage yi...

Genetic Diversity Evaluation of Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis L.) Ecotypes Using Morphological Traits and Molecular Markers

Genetic diversity of 12 lemon balm ecotypes was evaluated using agronomic traits as well as ISSR and RAPD markers. Results of analysis of variance showed high diversity among the studied ecotypes. Cluster analysis using UPGMA method grouped the ecotypes into three different groups based on the agronomic traits. Twelve ISSR primers created 106 polymorphic bands among the studied ecotypes. An ISS...

Phylogeny and population structure of brown rot- and Moko disease-causing strains of Ralstonia solanacearum phylotype II.

The ancient soilborne plant vascular pathogen Ralstonia solanacearum has evolved and adapted to cause severe damage in an unusually wide range of plants. In order to better describe and understand these adaptations, strains with very similar lifestyles and host specializations are grouped into ecotypes. We used comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) to investigate three particular ecotypes in ...

Towards a conceptual and operational union of bacterial systematics, ecology, and evolution.

To completely understand the ecology of a bacterial community, we need to identify its ecologically distinct populations (ecotypes). The greatest promise for enumerating a community's constituent ecotypes is held by molecular approaches that identify bacterial ecotypes as DNA sequence clusters. These approaches succeed when ecotypes correspond with sequence clusters, but some models of bacteria...
